Apps to practice hard conversations out loud: a feature comparison (2026)

This page compares what each app says it offers, taken from its own website or App Store listing and linked next to each fact. Going by those descriptions, NeverBlank, Vocal Image and Yoodli describe an AI counterpart that answers back while you practice a specific conversation, while Orai and Speeko describe feedback on how you sound (pace, filler words, clarity). A general assistant like ChatGPT or Claude in voice mode can play the other person if you write the setup yourself. We have not tested the other apps.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between a speech coach and a conversation trainer?

A speech coach listens to you talk and scores how you sound: pace, filler words, clarity. A conversation trainer gives you another person to talk to, who answers, objects and pushes back, so you practice responding under pressure.

Can I just use ChatGPT or Claude to practice a hard conversation?

Yes. Describe the other person and the situation, ask it to stay in character and push back, and use voice mode. You won't get built-in scenarios, scoring or a record of your progress, so you have to judge how it went yourself.

Which of these apps describe practicing a salary negotiation?

Vocal Image's site names salary talks among its roleplays, NeverBlank has negotiation scenarios, and Yoodli describes manager and difficult conversations. Check each app's linked page for what it covers today; we haven't tested them.
